Covid-19 Club Guidelines: How we are keeping you safe

Last Updated 26th Spetember | Ollie and Jasper

Unfortunately when using indoor gyms whilst climbing there is a risk of getting coronavirus, we have tried in all cases where possible to minimise this risk, yet reducing the chance to 0 is impossible. Please take care and if you feel unsafe or uncertain, get in contact.

Under the guidance of Warwick sport and the BMC, we have instated a COVID-19 officer to deal with the safe handling of the club in these times. To avoid extra admin and planning, I (Ollie) will be taking on this role. If you have any suggestions/concerns about these measures, do not hesitate to get in contact. The 6 person limit does not apply to club meets for trips or training as stated on the BMC website taken from the sport England website, this does however mean that appropriate risk assessments are required for each activity. Please note that this information is likely to change as we are waiting for the latest advice.

What we are doing to keep you safe

  • We will write COVID-19 risk assessments for each event that we run.

  • For each event, we will keep a record of attendees for 21 days for use in the NHS test & trace system.

  • Our exec will receive COVID-19 training for the delivery of lessons, to ensure that teaching is done as safely as possible.

  • I will be working with the wall and the BMC to ensure that we are up to date with the current advice and that the club can adapt to any changes to governmental advice.

What we expect from you at our events

  • DO NOT attend if you, or someone in your household, has symptoms of COVID-19 or you have been contacted by test & trace.

  • You must adhere to the government’s guidance to social distancing at all times.

  • Please respect the exec giving their time to try and make club hours as safe and secure as possible

  • If after the event you test positive for coronavirus, you MUST contact us so that we can work with test & trace to give out contact details for those on the event.

  • The wearing of a face covering will be compulsory on transport for trips, unless you are exempt

  • You must not share food and drink with people from other households

  • When on trips, you must climb within your grade to reduce the risk of serious injury

Club Hours

We’ve decided to make a separate Club Hours page to detail exactly how they will run this year.

Trips are not looking likely at the current time, but are awaiting further guidance to allow them to go ahead. If trips do go ahead you will stay in bubbles for transport and climb with the same partner all day. This is to minimise unnecessary interaction and reduce the amount of people touching the same gear. These measures are all in accordance with the BMC guidance and we will go into more detail about trip planning closer to the time.

As previously mentioned, our exec will be receiving training from the climbing walls association and will work closely with our centre manager, Alan, to provide lessons in a COVID-19 safe manner. More information on lessons will go live in the weeks running up to lessons but will likely involve the same safety procedures for our other events.

We will attempt to continue giving out gear to our members during club hours and will clean the gear after each use. The exec on gear duty will be responsible for this and we will follow the BMC advice for gear cleaning. This may result in a reduced service, but safety is of the highest importance, so please be patient with us.

Due to the 6 person limit in place on gatherings, we cannot have any in person socials at the current time, hopefully we will be offering some fun online socials so stay tuned for more info on that :).

I will try to keep this page up to date with the latest guidance from the BMC and the government, but here are a few useful links to the guidance for yourself:

Thank you all for your patience. We are all super excited to get back to climbing and keeping the club running safely for the future.
